Jody: Over the last two days, God’s taken our plans, laughed at them, and made them his own. While we planned VBS-style lessons with some games peppered in, God’s limited the teaching time and really given us time to bond with the boys on a deeper level with a lot of one-on-one interaction.
Adam: A drawing craft turned into an airshow disaster when a simple paper airplane spawned an air traffic controller’s nightmare. We planned on coloring and drawing – God took that and made it His own, filling the rec room with paper airplanes of all different shapes and sizes and plenty of laughter.
Wendy: During one of our games the boys were carrying a golf ball in a plastic spoon to one end of the room and back. Two of the boys in wheelchairs wanted to give it a shot (being pushed, of course.) A boy named Rene was pushing Jorge who’s in a wheelchair. They were doing great until Rene took the corner too fast and Jorge was launched from his chair and did a faceplant right into the rec room floor. Everyone held their breath for a moment then rushed to help Jorge up and assess the situation. We erupted in applause when we picked Jorge up – not only was he fine, he was laughing hysterically.
By the way… cameras were not allowed. But we snuck some pictures anyway. We had to take them without a flash and without really looking through the viewfinder but they get the job done. Check them out here.
